Baltimore Ravens GM Eric DeCosta has a stressful month

The Baltimore Ravens are heading into the 2023 NFL Draft with a big question left unanswered. The Ravens could pick a quarterback due to their situation with Lamar Jackson. The Ravens have indicated they’re considering adding wide receivers to help whoever their quarterback is next fall. General manager Eric DeCosta recently indicated what the Ravens’ draft strategy would be with their five picks.

According to the Ravens website, DeCosta talked about the Ravens’ lack of picks in the draft in his pre-draft press conference on Wednesday. DeCosta said he viewed giving up their second-round pick for Roquan Smith as a win but that the team might need to trade back to acquire more draft capital this spring:

“Our goal would be to add picks if we can at some point,” DeCosta said. “In saying that, I think it’s important to note that we’ve had a lot of picks over the past four-five years. You get to a point where maybe having too many picks isn’t necessarily the right thing. You almost have to have a purge at some point because you have all these young players on the team, and they can’t all make the team if you just keep stacking these huge, massive draft classes.”

The Ravens need to get as many offensive weapons as possible in this year’s draft, as Jackson or their next quarterback need help to make the Ravens a serious threat in the playoffs.
